Halloween!

I cannot believe how long it's been since I've posted last! So much has happened since September; John and I moved, and I fell seriously ill for more than three weeks (just to name a few...).

Today, I want to share my Halloween costume with you! I got dressed up for a friend's Halloween party. It's no secret that I'm somewhat obsessed with fashion history, so this year I decided to be a flapper! I found this dress at Forever 21 and it worked out perfectly! I did a loose finger wave at the top of my head and let the rest get curly and unruly.

And here's a close-up of the headpiece from feathers and sequin trim...

I hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween! In addition to the party, John and I greeted dozens of trick-or-treaters last night. What did you dress up as?

Late Summer Favorites

Hey everyone! So sorry for my absence- I've had the craziest couple of weeks! First, John (my boyfriend and photographer) was in Europe, then an earthquake on the East Coast, and we looked at and applied for a new apartment!

This type of outfit is definitely a go-to of mine during the late summer: a floral skirt with a defined waist and this cute ballerina-esque tee with flat sandals. Also, pictured is the new bag I picked up at J. Crew (on super-sale, of course). I absolutely love it!

Do you have any favorite staples for late summer?

I'll be back next week after Hurricane Irene passes through. Stay safe!

Rockaway Beach

One of my favorite things about New York City is that there are five boroughs to explore! And even though I've spent all of my life within an hour of Manhattan, there's still always new places to explore. Rockaway beach has been on my list for awhile now.

One of the most awesome things about Rockaway beach is Rockaway Taco! It's a tiny beach shack serving up what I can easily are the best tacos in NYC! They even grow some of their own produce on their roof, ensuring everything is as fresh as it gets.

The end of summer is (too) rapidly approaching, but I feel like it's barely begun because I've been so busy! I want more time for boating and the beach please!

Parkside

I absolutely love my neighborhood in the city! There's one area of it filled with antique, Tudor-styled homes and tree-lined streets. It's gorgeous! Recently, John and I discovered a great little park there- just a short walk from my apartment.

My mom bought this ring for me at an artisan's consignment shop up in New Paltz, NY while visiting my sister when she went to college there. It's very unique- I've never seen anything else quite like it.

I bought this dress for my trip to Europe last summer. I love the way the soft tonal effect of the floral is contrasted by the sharp geometric striped layout of the print. I've worn in in all seasons- in winter with tights, boots and a cardigan, with all different belts, and in summer as seen here.
It also has a sort of 70's vibe to it.

Sweet Summer

Summer is my favorite time of year, and finally this past weekend- it finally started to really feel like summer! We dined in sidewalk cafes, picnicked along the waterfront, and explored little nooks of this ever-changing city.

I wore this to a friend's birthday party held in her Brooklyn backyard. It was cool enough for the hot July weather and the bright orange print was fitting to her fiesta party theme.

Yesterday, on the Fourth of July, John and I decided to spend the afternoon together, picnicking on the Willamsburg waterfront. The weather and view was gorgeous.

Here's a quick shot from our picnic. Hope you all had a happy Fourth!

Taking the Plunge

Welcome to Circa Style! I'm Heather and I've been intrigued by fashion as long as I can remember, so starting a style blog only seemed natural to me. But don't worry, Circa Style will be my own unique twist on things; with a plus sized angle and lots of little adventures!

I wanted to start thing off with a post in McCarren Park, here in New York. It is a common weekend stop for my boyfriend John (more about him later) and I, especially when the weather is nice, mostly because it has an amazing farmer's market. It was so windy, so  beware of  my unruly, windblown hair! Well, here goes!

Jacket- American Eagle
Tights- Old Navy
